RECC Principal Irene Hsieh

ihpicRECC Principal Irene Hsieh has deep experience in the renewable energy industry, including deal structuring, financial modeling, and negotiating within each phase of a project financing from origination to financial close. Her experience extends well beyond the financial close to developing and managing the asset management process, which ensures that financial reporting requirements, operating specifications, and other conditions are met to the satisfaction of lenders and investors. Knowledge and experience gained from successfully resolving project finance restructurings and workouts as a senior asset manager enables Irene to effectively negotiate terms that ensure a successful project financing and deployment of energy infrastructure projects.

Over the past 15 years, Irene has managed transactions from the perspective of each key role in a project financing: financial advisor, lender, investor, developer, and governmental agency. In addition to commercial and privately placed debt and equity financing structures, she has successfully closed deals utilizing a broad range of financial tools, such as industrial revenue bonds, M&A, and public-private partnerships (“PPP”). Irene has worked on the full range of energy infrastructure projects and related industries including solar, wind, carbon offsets, and natural gas and coal-fired power projects and oil pipelines. Within the renewable energy sector, she has lead the negotiation and financial close of over $64 million in solar energy debt financings.

Prior to joining RECC, Irene advised solar and wind companies as their senior financial advisor. She was previously Vice President at First Climate, a global provider of green investments expertise, climate neutral services, and environmental consulting. She led the project finance group at Solar Power, Inc., as SPI’s Director of Project Finance. Prior to Irene’s work in renewable energy, she was a senior manager at the Export-Import Bank of the United States (the “Ex-Im Bank”), an independent, self-sustaining federal agency with an 80-year record of supporting U.S. jobs by financing the export of American goods and services, where she served as Senior Asset Management Officer managing a $1+ billion global portfolio of projects. The formative years of her career were spent at GE Capital as Associate Director of the Capital Markets Services Group, National Westminster Bank (now RBS Bank) as a Project Finance Associate, and Kidder, Peabody (now UBS Investment Bank) as a Financial Analyst in the Project & Lease Finance Group where she focused on projects in the environmental services industry. Irene earned her bachelor’s degree in Economics and Environmental Science from Barnard College and her Master’s degree in International and Economic Policy from Columbia University.
